Picture Representation

This picture shows me as an imaginative learner. I think outside the box and I try to find different kinds of strategies for everything.

This picture represents me as an enthusiastic learner. I am usually enthusiastic about finishing my assignments and even about starting them.

This picture represents me as a confident learner. This picture shows a woman running with pride, which could definitely describe me as a learner. I am quite confident about learning, and I am always confident when it comes to my assignments.

Me

My friends always tell me "Alia, we know you better than you know yourself" which, really, is true. They've seen me at my worst and best, and they know how I act towards everything. My friends describe me as:
-Sociable
-Outgoing
-Determined

Each of my teachers could perceive myself as a student in several ways. Three adjectives that they would most-likely perceive me as would be:
-Opinionated
-Energetic
-Eager

After looking at the itinerary, I find myself interested in many of the activities. The event that I am most excited about would be either the visiting of the waterfall that was in the "South Pacific" movie, or the the snorkeling trip. I love the water, so I am hoping that we will do more of normal ocean-type snorkeling instead of just mangrove-snorkeling, because that doesn't interest me very much.

The event that I am least excited about would be the exploring of the kampong and local gardens. I have done something similar to this with my family, and did not find it at all interesting. It was rather boring, and boring activities don't fascinate me. I like knowing about other people's cultures, though it probably isn't a source of knowledge that I could use later on in my life.

I chose Tioman as my Malaysia Week site because, apart from my other Malaysia Week sites that I have been on in previous years, didn't include the activity of snorkeling. So this year, I wanted to choose a site that had included snorkeling activities and activities that had to do with water or on the beach. I had heard from other people who went to Tioman the year before that it was a beautiful site, and people had a lot of fun. Until I went to my first Malaysia Week meeting for Tioman, I wasn't aware that the activities that I thought we'd be doing had changed. I wasn't very happy, because I didn't like the idea of snorkeling in mangroves or hiking up to the campsite. I also wasn't very happy that I didn't have any of my close friends on the site, which worried me about becoming left out at any time during Malaysia Week.
However, I like the water, which interested me the most about this site. I also like the fact that we get to experience both the rainforest, and the beautiful waters of Tioman.

One thing that I think everyone should know about me as a person is that I am very adventurous. You could call me a bit of a risk-taker, because I always like experiencing things that I haven't experienced before in my life. Another thing that people should know about me, is that I hate losing. I like being on teams with people who actually will cooperate in team situations and has good strategies of winning. This doesn't just include competitions, this also has to do with people that I don't really know, or my friends. If someone doesn't agree with something I have done, I tell them how I really feel about the situation- which relates to one of the adjectives that my teachers would characterize me as; opinionated.

The types of people that I work well with are people who share the same characteristics in common with me- people who understand how I act towards real-life situations. I also work well with people who share the same interests as me; like certain activities.

I have a hard time working with people who aren't 'in for the game'. People who don't really care about winning, or helping out in certain situations. I, as do many other individuals, hate being perceived in a way that really, I am not. People who fool around and find themselves funny insulting others are very hard for me to work with. Another word for people like that could be immature. However, people like these doesn't mean I dislike them in any way.

Excitement Put Into Words

Malaysia Week is a five-day trip literally of freedom from parents, to experience things that you have never experienced before, to make friends, and the most important; to bring home lifelong memories. Malaysia Week is on the verge of arriving, and I can't seem to begin to describe how excited I am. This year for Malaysia Week, I don't have much of my friends on the site, however there is a majority of 8th graders that I all know and wish to gain a stronger bond with them. There are many activities that we will be participating in. As a quote from the Princess Bride once said "he's climbing the rope, and he's gaining" relates to what we will be gaining on Malaysia Week. I think, as an opinionated individual, that everyone gains at least something when they participate in an activity of some sort.
I hope to gain several things on Malaysia Week, but the main thing that I hope to gain, are to bring home several memories; memories that will be remembered for a lifetime. I also hope to gain friendship with people whom I don't know very well, or don't know at all. And lastly, I hope to gain different, and new techniques that could be useful throughout my life.
I hope to gain memories from Malaysia Week 2010, in Tioman.
